Hoedown

While I am from Houston, it is surprisingly easy to evade any and all country influence in the city. We have so many cultures in Houston, it’s pretty easy to forget we’re “western”. That said, with this first installation of the Dozer magazine titled “Hoedown" I want to delve further into these spaces that have existed around me forever. In this issue I will submerge myself in western environments I would typically avoid. The sites for this venture feature Houston and New York City. What sparked the inspiration for this theme is my growing fascination with black cowboys. The past couple of years I’ve learned a lot about black cowboys and their influence on modern country culture. That said, the visual and literary experience of this issue will be seen almost entirely through the eyes of black cowboys, past and present.
